FAQ/Pricing

"What does a charity auctioneer do at a nonprofit gala?"

A benefit auctioneer runs the live auction and the donation appeal, and keeps the room moving so guests give more. At HUNT, we also help plan the program and run of show before the event, because most of the money is won or lost in preparation.

"How much does a benefit auctioneer cost in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut?"

HUNT's fees range depending on the needs and goals of each event, how much pre-event consulting is requested and whether you add require an emcee, clerk and/or professional bidspotter. We provide custom proposals after a brief call.

"How far ahead should we book?"

Book as soon as your date is set. Marketplace data shows planners typically hire an auctioneer about 71 days ahead in New York and 95 days ahead in Connecticut, but spring and fall gala dates fill early, so 6-9 months is even better.

"What is the difference between a live auction and a paddle raise/fund-a-need/giving appeal?"

A live auction sells a few high-value items to the highest bidder. It is by nature competitive, and more transactional. A paddle raise (fund-a-need, giving appeal) asks every guest to give at different levels. It is more collaborative, inclusive, and transformational. Most galas use both; we recommend a mix based on your donor base and goal.

"What is a Benefit Auctioneer Specialist (BAS)?"

BAS is a designation from the National Auctioneers Association for auctioneers who complete specialized benefit-auction training and ongoing continuing education. Lucas Hunt holds it, and HUNT carries insurance.

"Do you work in Washington, DC, Philadelphia and Newport, Rhode Island? Yes. HUNT is based in New York and hosts galas in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Washington, DC, Philadelphia and Newport. Travel expenses are additional to our fee for service.

"Is a professional auctioneer worth it for a smaller event?"

It depends on your goal and how many guests can give at higher levels. Many of our long lasting clients began with small fundraising goals of under 50k, and have built up to raisind hundreds of thousands of dollars. Some small clients hire us for consultation only, before bringing on an auctioneer to the event.

"What makes HUNT different?"

HUNT combines hosting with consulting, so we shape the program before the event and run the room on the night. Clients describe results such as doubling the previous year's total, passing the $1 million mark, and breaking records year after year.
